What’s the difference between the Kid Comfort 2 and Kid Comfort 3?

The Kid Comfort 2 and 3 both feature the same suspension system and frame elements, but the Kid Comfort 3 is taller because of its high-back head rest and a stowable water resistant sun roof for the child.

Other features that differentiate the Kid Comfort 3 from the Kid Comfort 2 are: thickness differences of the removable/washable dribble pillow, a small mirror in the hip belt to check on the child behind, and a little extra volume in the storage compartment.

For a comparison of all models in the Kid Comfort series check out this blog post on choosing the right Kid Comfort carrier with pros, cons and ideal uses for each pack. You can also watch this short video on some of the main features of the Kid Comfort series.

What's the minimum/maximum age, weight and height that the Deuter Kid Comfort carriers can hold?

The Deuter child carriers are designed for kids that can sit up independently (usually at around six months old – although this can, of course, vary).

The maximum weight (child plus gear) is limited to 48 lbs (22 kg). Our child carriers have been JPMA certified to this capacity and approved according to US standards.

Because children grow differently, we make no height or maximum age specifications. However, the maximum weight capacity should not be exceeded.

How do I register my Kid Carrier?

Can I get stirrups for my Kid Carrier?

All Kid Comforts produced prior to 2014 did not come with stirrups and it’s not possible to retrofit the stirrups onto these models. All Kid Comfort Air, 2, and 3 that were from 2014 or newer do come with stirrups. If your KC fits into this category and you’re looking for replacements, please reach out to our warranty department.

How do I fit and adjust my backpack?

How your backpack fits is very important, especially if you are planning a long trip. Check out this short video to help you get your Deuter pack properly fitted and adjusted.

Backpacks with the Vari Quick System give you the ability to adjust the length of the pack to suit your body type. For a few tips on how to properly adjust your pack, click here.

How do I load my gear into a pack?

  • The pack’s center of gravity should sit close to the body, ideally at shoulder height. This way it is positioned over the body’s center of gravity and the pack won’t pull backwards.
  • How to properly load larger capacity backpacks (30 L and more): Put the sleeping bag, down jackets and other light objects in the bottom compartment. Place midweight gear, such as clothing, on the top towards the outside. Heavy equipment – tent, food, big jackets – should be below shoulder height, close to the back. Put small, often used items in the lid pocket where they can be easily grabbed.
  • Minimize the number of items you strap to the outside of the pack and keep them as compact and small as possible.
  • In general, keep an even weight distribution in mind, particularly for side pockets. Use stuff sacks to get organized. Waterproof sacks are also a safe alternative to a rain cover.
  • In easy terrain (hiking routes, flat trails) the pack’s center of gravity should sit higher, but in difficult passages (alpine routes, Via Ferrata) it should be a bit lower and thus closer to the body’s center of gravity. This packing system leads to a more forward leaning position, yet it provides more balance compared to a higher center of gravity.

Where are Deuter backpacks made?

In the early 1990’s, Deuter realized that if it was to survive as a competitive brand known for high-quality equipment (based on technical sewing skills), we could no longer manufacture in Germany.

In 1991 Deuter established a relationship with a single supplier based in Vietnam with just 35 sewing machines. This marked the beginning of a close partnership. Today, there are over 2,500 employees who work on the exclusive production of all Deuter packs and accessories. Through the years, mutual understanding, close cooperation and the sharing of ideas has turned a business partnership into a true friendship.

What are Deuter’s sustainability practices?

Since 2008, Deuter has been a member of bluesign® – an independent organization that establishes standards for sustainability, health and safety in the textile industry. Deuter is committed to meeting the strict bluesign® standard and having an environmentally friendly production cycle.

Which backpacks can I take as carry-on?

Most domestic flights in the USA accept carry-on bags that are 22” x 14” x 9”. However, sizing restrictions vary by airline. We strongly recommend checking with your airline regarding carry-on policy and size limitations before flying.

On our website you can find the maximum measurements of each product in the details section.

Do you offer detachable daypacks of the Traveller, Quantum and Transit as replacements?

Detachable backpacks may be available through out warranty center, please fill out a warranty request here.

Which rain cover fits my backpack?

  • On our website you will find detailed product information including the respective maximum dimensions (volume + measurement with height, width, depth in cm) as well as the measurements of the rain covers (also volume + measurement).
  • If you compare the volume specifications you will easily find the correct rain cover.
  • To ensure the rain cover perfectly fits your pack, we recommend trying it out when you purchase the Deuter backpack.
  • There are no specific rain covers for our kids backpacks however the Rain Cover Mini (the smallest rain cover we make) fits the Schmusebar and Kikki Packs loosely and fits the Junior backpack more snugly. Additionally the Raincover 1 is drawstring adjustable and will fit the Climber, Fox 30, and Fox 40. Again fitting slightly looser on the Climber than the Fox packs.
  • Note: In general, the rain cover can be bigger than the backpack and you can use the drawstrings for adjustment. Yet, make sure the rain cover covers an empty backpack as well as a fully loaded one.

Why does the Deuter SL system fit women so well?

We have established a female team of professional athletes and designers for the development of our SL packs (SL stands for Slim Line). They were designed to fit the average athletic female build. However, since not everyone fits the norm it is likely that standard models also fit female users perfectly well and vice versa. SL models also fit younger guys or men with slim builds.

Features of the SL system:

  • Lower shoulder strap anchor point that is a bit shorter than the standard version to accommodate a shorter torso.
  • A more conical shaped hip belt, which further accommodates a greater arch in the spine. The SL hip belt anchor points are set closer together, and are slightly curved angling diagonally upward. The fins are also pre-shaped so that the fastened hip belt has a conical shape delivering a customized fit.
  • Shoulder straps that are both narrower in width and shorter in length, with tapered ends and smaller buckles to avoid chafing in the armpits and eliminate pressure points in the chest area. Also, the shoulder straps are set closer together so they stay in place and don’t slip off the shoulders.
  • Shoulder straps have an S-shape and feature softly lined edges on both sides, allowing them to curve around sensitive areas, reducing chafing.

Are your reservoirs BPA free?
